Meet The Founder

“Sometimes the person who needs to hear ‘You matter’ the most is the person staring back at you in the mirror.”

I'm Nate, and I want to tell you why I created YouMatterCo.

This didn't start because I thought the world needed another mental health apparel brand. Honestly, the last thing I wanted to do was put a bunch of words on a hoodie and pretend that was enough. It started because I've spent a lot of my life believing the opposite of what this brand stands for.

I've had moments where I didn't feel like I mattered. I've carried pain I didn't know how to talk about. I've made choices I wasn't proud of. I've struggled with things that, for a long time, I thought I was supposed to just keep to myself.

I've worn the armor. And for a long time, I thought that was what strength looked like. Keep it together. Don't let people see what's underneath. Keep moving. Don't ask for help. Don't let anybody know how much something actually hurt. But eventually, I realized that armor doesn't just keep the world out. Sometimes it keeps people in, too.

Somewhere along the way, I started realizing that what happened to me was part of my story, but it didn't have to become my identity. That realization is a huge part of why YouMatterCo exists.

Not because I have all the answers. I don't. Not because I think a hoodie can fix someone's life. It can't. But I do believe that words matter. I believe being seen matters. I believe having one person remind you that you're not alone can matter. And I believe sometimes a simple message can reach somebody at exactly the right moment. YOU MATTER.

That's what these clothes are supposed to be. They're reminders you can wear. Reminders that say, "I am not what happened to me." "I am still here." "I can heal." "I can become something different." "I matter." And so do you.

But I don't want YouMatterCo to stop at clothing. I want this to become a place where we can have the conversations that we've spent generations avoiding. A place where survivors don't have to be defined by what happened to them. Where men can talk about pain without being told to toughen up. Where veterans can find connection instead of silence. Where someone who's struggling can find resources, community, and people who understand that sometimes life gets heavy.

And I want giving back to be part of the foundation, not something we talk about once a year. That's why a portion of what we make goes toward organizations that are already doing this work in the real world. Because I don't want to just talk about change. I want to help build it.

I don't know exactly how far this can go. Maybe it'll become something much bigger than I ever imagined. Maybe it'll reach someone I've never met who desperately needed to hear these words. That's enough reason for me to keep going. Because I think movements start small. One person realizing they're not alone. Then another. Then another. And eventually, we're not just wearing the message. We're living it.

So if you've ever felt unseen. If you've ever questioned whether you mattered. If you've ever had to rebuild yourself after something tried to break you. If you're still figuring out who you are and who you want to become. I hope you know there's a place for you here. You don't have to be perfect. You don't have to have it all figured out. You just have to be here.

And maybe that's the first step. Choosing yourself. Then choosing yourself again tomorrow. And again the day after that.

Because I've learned something the hard way. Sometimes the person who needs to hear "You matter" the most is the person staring back at you in the mirror.

That's why I built this. That's why I'm wearing the armor. And that's why, underneath it, I'm choosing to let people see me.

With love,
Nate
